Metallica has announced that they will not be appearing at this year’s Sonic Temple and Louder Than Life Festivals, due to recovery events James Hetfield has scheduled those two weekends.

The announcement comes just a few months after Metallica announced that Hetfield had entered a treatment program. You can read the full announcement from Hetfield via the band’s official website HERE.

Metallica was scheduled to headline both Friday, May 15th, and Sunday, May 17th, at Sonic Temple. Those nights will now be headlined by Red Hot Chili Peppers and Tool.

The replacement headliners for Louder Than Life are expected to be announced soon.

In his statement, Hetfield assures fans that the band will not cancel any more dates in 2020.
