Governor Gretchen Whitmer is expected to announce the MI Shot to Win Sweepstakes on Thursday, July 1st, which will incentivize getting the vaccine in the state of Michigan.

According to the Associated Press, Michigan residents that are 18 and older who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will have the opportunity to win their share of $5 million in prizes.

Those residents that are between the ages of 12 and 17 that have received one dose of the vaccine will have the opportunity to win money for college.

It’s surprising, honestly, that it took Michigan this long to jump on the ‘vaccine sweepstakes’ bandwagon. Ohio launched their sweepstakes weeks ago and saw a jump in those getting the vaccine almost immediately. Other states quickly followed suit, once they saw the success of the program in Ohio.

The hope is that the cash incentive to get vaccinated will push Michigan past its goal of having 70% of its residents vaccinated.

Will the opportunity to win cash convince you to get the vaccine, if you don’t haven’t received it yet?
